Shaykh al-Hadith Shaykh Muhammad Zakariyya (ra) was born on Feb. 3, 1898 to a deeply religious, pious family in Kandhla, Muzaffarnagar, district of U.P., India . He acquired knowledge from some of the most distinguished religious personalities including his father Shaykh Muhammad Yahya Kandhelvi (ra) and his uncle Shaykh Muhammad Ilyas Kandhelvi (ra), who was also the founder of Tablighi Jamaat.

At the tender age of 7, he started the memorization of Quran and learning the beginning books from his father. At the age of 13 he joined Mazaahir al-Uloom and completed Daura Hadith from his fathe and his Shaykh Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri (ra). After the completion of his studies, he began to teach there. His expertise was Hadith which was also his passion. He was a teacher of Siha Sitta in Mazahir al-Uloom for 60 years. Even though he received his khalifat from Shaykh Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri (ra), he was greatly influenced by Shaykh Abdur Rahim Raipuri (ra), Hakeem al-Ummat Shaykh Ashraf Ali Thanvi (ra), Shaykh Shah Abdul Qadir Raipuri (ra) and Shaykh Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (ra).

He has written more than 100 well known books including Bazl al-Majhood, Fazaile A'maal which have earned the authenticity even amongst the scholars of the Arab world. He was not only a Muhadith but was also the spiritual leader of thousands of people around the world. Shaykh Muhammad Zakaria (ra) left behind an unforgettable legacy with his final breath on May 24, 1982 in Madinah Munawwarah.
